Though The Vision Tarry: Waiting For My Promised Mate

Marriage statistics nowadays are alarming. Almost half of all couples that head down the aisle end up in divorce court. What makes this fact even more startling is that this statistic is the same for those in the church. Why is it that Christians seem to have just as much trouble as those in the world when it comes to holding marriages together?

Maybe part of the answer lies in the process singles go through in choosing a spouse. Are Christians seeking out someone they think would make the perfect mate for them or are they seeking the mate that God has ordained for them? Or is it a question of impatience? Are Christian singles unwilling to wait for their God-appointed mate? Are they bowing to the pressure of a society that says at a certain time you should be married?

One woman’s story can help answer that question. Her name is Aleathea Dupree and let me tell you, she has a story to tell. Hailing from Coventry, England, and migrating to the United States at the age of eight, she knew the Lord had a calling on her life at an early age. But, it wasn't until Aleathea had a personal encounter with the Lord at fifteen that she accepted Him as her Lord and Savior. After graduating from college, she completed her studies at the New Life Bible Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and at the Christian Stronghold School of Biblical Counseling. Aleathea has served as ministry staff counselor for those experiencing divorce, separation or widowhood. She also served on the staff of Christian counselors for the Sharon Baptist Church's Counseling Center in Philadelphia. Not only is she a minister of the gospel, but she has recently added the title “author” to her credits.

She recently authored a book entitled Though The Vision Tarry: Waiting For My Promised Mate. Her story is a compelling one, chronicling a harrowing marriage (where her life was threatened), a promise from God for His ordained mate and its ultimate fulfillment. It’s an exciting tale of God’s faithfulness intertwined with the realities and the sacrifice necessary as part of a single woman’s obedience to God. I found Aleathea's story to be exceptionally poignant and timely. I was so fascinated by her story that I read the book in one sitting; I truly couldn’t put it down.

I had a chance to speak with Aleathea Dupree, and asked why she decided to pour her experiences into a book. She said, “I wrote Though The Vision Tarry… for those who have been holding onto a promise from God--whether that be for a husband, a wife, a ministry, or a change--particularly those who have been waiting for long time. When the wait is for a few days or weeks, it is not that difficult to wait. But when the wait extends to months and years, it can become a struggle. It is during those times of struggle that many of us are tempted to compromise and accept less than God's best, or we begin to question whether or not God is really going to fulfill His promise. The book is a journal of events that took place over thirteen years. It's a powerful, transparent testimony and a reminder of God's faithfulness. I want people to know that God has not forgotten them, and that He will do what He says He will do... in His appointed time.”

In Though The Vision Tarry: Waiting For My Promised Mate, Dupree takes us on a journey from an abusive, life-threatening relationship to a divine, beautiful one fashioned by purpose-driven God. Her life is a wonderful example of God’s grace and redemption.
